by elizabeth warren in his bid for re-election, that scott brown will be the republican nominee. that special election i think is scheduled for around june of this year and there's already been a few democratic potential candidates who are thinking of challenging scott brown assuming scott brown runs for that senate seat, whether deval patrick, the governor of massachusetts, congressman ed markey, the long serving democratic congressman from massachusetts. there's been some other names mentioned as well, but it's going to have a political fallout as well as international fallout, but the bottom line is the president has decided to nominate john kerry as the next secretary of state. >> it is interesting, too, that the republican scott brown came out for gun control legislation, some form of gurn control legislation, which we have not heard from many sitting republicans. >> scott brown's position has evolved since the fallout a week ago of what happened in newtown, connecticut. he favored an assault weapons ban if done by states. he didn't think the federal government should get involved, but n

, and it's not exactly a mike brown with the lakers situation quite yet. john boehner has a little bit of leeway, shall we say, mainly because eric cantor was all in on this deal as well and the vast majority of the house gop conference supported it. he just couldn't get those 40 chuckle heads, quote, unquote, as his colleague steve la for ret calls them. the way going forward for john boehner is he's taken himself out of the negotiations and the big loss for him last night was that he's essentially allowing harry reid and president obama to draw up a fiscal cliff bill they would like to see. now, there's talks from the senate side that that bill could possibly look like the $250,000 or below tax cuts, an extension of unemployment benefits or getting rid of the sequester. whether that could get through the house remains to be seen, but from where we are right now, the friday before christmas, john boehner is not communicating with president obama and has removed himself from these negotiations. >> well, he may not be mike brown, but he could be mike d'antoni. even senate majority leade

.c. judy brown is co-director of the project. i want to start with you. what do you think is the most important thing we need to do? >> thanks for having me. we have big things we have to do. voters are fed up with a broken election system and politicians who have tried to manipulate the law sos that people can't participate for their own partisan gain. what we have to do to fix this is we need to either go big or go home. what i mean by that is it is time for us to have national standards around running state and federal elections. in order to get there, we really are going to have to have a federal law that is passed or a constitutional amendment that will give us these national standar standards. right now, we have 13,000 election jurisdictions in this country that run elections 13,000 different ways? that's the part we have to fix. if we get the national standards, make it explicit in the constitution, we have a right to vote, all else will come from that, including fixing registration, fixing the time it takes us to vote. that's the big idea of where we have to go in this country
